Doily Rug Crochet (Tapestry)

A sunflower rug that uses a technique called Tapestry or led wire.
I had wanted to make a rug with this technique for a long time, but the opportunity and/or the inspiration had not yet arisen. well, the time has come

I find this technique very interesting, and actually it’s not that hard to do. Tapestry or guided thread consists of working, at the same time, with threads of the colors required by the drawing.

Thus, while weaving with one color, the threads of the other colors “walk” through the stitches of the color being weaved. When it’s time to change colors, pick up the color you walked with, start weaving with that color and the other color you were weaving with, will now walk through the stitches of the new color.

That is why it is called “guided wire”, as one or more wires are guided inside the points of the color being worked on. It looks a lot more complicated than it really is

To understand and learn this technique, you can watch this video tutorial here, but there is a lot on the Internet and just choose what you like the most.

I made the sunflower graphic and with the different colors to be very clear when it is necessary to change colors. The mat is all worked in high stitches and the last blank round is the low stitches (“x” in the graph). Then, in brown, I made the border in crab stitch, which is the low stitch made towards the “back”, that is, in the opposite direction of the one being worked (represented in the graph in brown by the “x” with the small arrow on top indicating the dot sense). To finish, between the last white row and this row of crab stitches, I made a row of very low stitches (represented in the graph by the brown balls).

The core is made after the finished piece and as shown in graphic 2, it is woven between the high stitches of the base: 1 very low stitch (brown balls) – 3 chains (brown circles) – 1 very low stitch to secure the chains , in the next base point range. And so on…
